Janet May Clay

Janet May Clay, a beloved longtime resident of Grand Ledge, Michigan, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 14, 1945, in Ionia, Michigan, to the late Harold and Dorothy (Davis) Sedore. Janet attended Grand Ledge High School and later attended Capital Academy of Cosmetology, which set her on a fulfilling path as the owner and operator of Jan’s Beauty Shop, a cherished fixture in her home for fifty-five years. Her passion for beauty and her dedication to her clients were evident in the warmth and care she provided to everyone who walked through her door. In addition to her work, Janet found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved playing bingo with family and friends, and she treasured the countless moments spent with her close-knit family, especially at the cottage with her Houghton Lake family. Janet is survived by her loving daughter, Kimberly (Scott) DeLashmit, along with her dear brothers, Leslie (Janice) Sedore, Michael Sedore, and twin sister, Jean Michaels, son-in-law, Leslie May. She leaves behind an extensive family network, including her beloved sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Martha (Gordon) Woodman, Doug Clay, Dan Clay, Mary Deuel, Rob Clay, Theresa Monaco, Laura Clay, and Becky (Tom) Martin, and Rita Clay who will deeply miss her. Janet was preceded in death by her loving husband, Tom in 2020; daughter, Cindy Louise May in 2024; siblings Shirley (Kay) Sedore, LeRoy (Bonnie) Sedore; brothers-in-law, Don Clay, Paul Monaco, and Chuck Wells Sr.; sisters-in-law, Dana Young-Clay, and Janet Slee-Clay. A memorial service will be held to honor Janet's life on June 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Holihan-Atkin-Barclay Funeral Home, where family and friends will gather to share their memories and celebrate her spirit with Pastor Christina Bright of the Immanuel Luther Church, Grand Ledge, officiating. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Following the service at the funeral home the family will be hosting a memorial luncheon at the Mulliken Masonic Temple, 206 Main Street, Mulliken, Michigan 48861. A private family inurnment will take place at Meadowbrook Cemetery, Mulliken.
